Values are so important when building a working relationship, and why a business exists is a really good way of communicating them. In the late seventies I was a young child in the back of our family car with my sister, we had pulled up at a petrol station to buy some fuel. My father was talking to the garage owner who was putting fuel in the car. My father was explaining to him that he was leaving a poorly paid job in the motor trade and starting self employment as a way to improve our family life.
