Whilst the rest of Britain celebrated the Queen's Silver Jubilee with wild street parties in 1977, two visionary accountants were quietly setting up their practice in a small market town in Berkshire. During the early years, which included the winter of discontent, Margaret Thatcher's rise to power and the invention of those so cool brick-sized mobile phones, the partners offered the traditional mix of auditing, preparing tax returns and the other accountancy services they'd been trained for.But gradually they began to realise that clients came to them because of the insight they offered.

Almost 12 years ago to the day I first met Andy Penfold. He came as a recommendation from a friend. I felt I was getting poor service from my accountant at the time. Andy was shocked at how I was being treated and just how much bad advice I was getting. He set out what he and PKB could offer me. Just before he left Andy said, "even if you don't go with me and PKB, please promise me you will stop using your current accountant"!
The rest as they say, is history. Andy is a total professional. He has helped and supported me many times over the years through good times and bad. He always starts conversations by asking how I am and the family before talking about any business. He always takes time to listen, even if I do go rambling on at times! PKB are fantastic and always there to provide support and advice. I highly recommend Julie Parham who helps me navigate things I have no idea how to do with patience and support. She is so quick to get back to me and it's such a relief to know she is there. The other person I would like to mention is Andy Penfold who gives me honest and brilliant advice and has helped to inform many of my decisions to run a successful business. I urgently needed an accountant. I used Google to find a company that was local and had already got good reviews. PKB Accountants fitted my needs and from the moment I contacted them I knew I was in safe hands. Their reception and admin teams are supportive and friendly and the accountant (Peter - what a legend!) who took my initial call engaged me as a client and helped me every step of the way - and tolerated my regular calls and emails as I needed his reassurance probably more than most of their other clients!

I called PKB for some advice after seeing a recommendation for them online. I was put through to Andy Penfold who took the time there and then to go through some of my questions regarding tax returns and mortgage financials. My previous accountant had started to charge me too much money for the work they were doing, and when I investigated the reasons why, I found that the bookkeeping hourly rates they were charging were far too high given the level of work they carried out. I consequently lost faith in them as I felt they had been less than open about their fees. By comparison PKB have been transparent in their charges and very flexible in how they have helped to support me, in particular Lisa Smith has been very easy to deal with. I'd therefore have no hesitation in recommending Andy Penfold and the team at PKB.

I have used the services of a few accountancy firms over the years and have been shocked at the poor level of diligence, I was starting to lose faith in the sector. However I do not have this issue at all with PKB and they have been nothing short of fantastic. We currently use their services for Payroll, Bookkeeping and Year End account submissions.

During the Covid 19 pandemic they have been especially helpful providing updates and dealing with all of our queries and requirements during a confusing time giving me clarity in how I need to run my businesses. I am a sole trader with a small business. PKB have efficiently looked after my business and personal accounts for the last 40 years. Andy Penfold and Peter Bowyer have been my main contacts but I have found every member of staff friendly, helpful, approachable, and knowledgeable. Andy in particular has over those years not only advised and guided me on the business front but very importantly taken a friendly personal interest in myself and family.
