We know that time and efficiency are important factors for you and your business. On this note, did you know that most accounting firms still sell time? They charge by the hour and the client pays according to how long the job takes. There is little emphasis on what the job is worth because accountants are still bogged down in compliance work with the knowledge that clients have little choice but to use their services. At McPhersons, our plan is to stop measuring time at all. Every project, compliance or not, will be priced according to its value to our clients.
I ve worked with other accountants in the past and found little consistency of service. With McPhersons, I have my own Account Manager who looks after everything and knows my business. These guys make it very clear that they do not want to deal small businesses. Myself, and a friend were clients, until a partner recently retired. This partner gave a great all-round service. He retired early in 2014, and since then the service simply does not exists. As a result, I have had late filing penalties from HM Revenue & Customs, and Companies House.
They say that they have systems in place so that clients do not get penalties....NOT TRUE. They advertise themselves as proactive....NOT ANY MORE. Do yourself a favour and avoid these guys.

You pay these guys good (expensive) fees, expecting to receive good solid tax advice. Instead, you get a bunch of people who simply do not care. The person I dealt with retired just over a year ago. He totally understood my business, and gave me the service I expected, and his fees were around J2,200. Since he retired, I have had a very poor service (and I mean very poor), and my fees have increased to J3,650.
They cannot explain the increase, so we will have a battle. Indeed, I asked a simple tax question two weeks ago, sent a reminder last week, and still no reply. What sort of service is that? I am looking elsewhere, and will be challenging their fee.
