Peter is a chartered accountant and a chartered tax adviser. He started the practice in 1988 initially from home. The practice has grown steadily since then and now has a staff of twelve in addition to the founder. The office has a friendly atmosphere which is regularly commented upon. This can be seen by the fact that two members of staff have left and then subsequently rejoined the practice.
When starting a business there are many questions that you are faced with about all sorts of issues from marketing and advertising to production and distribution. Underlying all these decisions is the accounting framework in which your business will operate. We can help you to produce quickly and efficiently a business plan, cash flow projections and profit forecasts.
Whatever type of business you are running it is essential to keep your business records up to date and in an easy to use format. For some entities eg limited companies and charities it is a legal requirement. We produce annual accounts for many small local businesses and some charities. The fact that over recent years the requirements for small companies to have a compulsory statutory audit have been eased has meant that a number of small companies have not been conscious of the benefits an audit can bring to their business. Peter Upton accountants made my tax return by mistake in 2016. As the employee of the company prepared it without me asking for it I felt that the honest thing to do is to pay the higher price Peter Upton accountants are charging and kindly apologise to the accountant who I intended to use. The tax return cost 360. In 2017 HMRC had some questions as I investigated the case it turned out there had been a miscommunication from my previous employer and HMRC, hence I got the wrong data.
I asked Peter Upton accountants if they are able to help clarify the issue and write a letter based on the information I received to HMRC. 'Yes, we can help you.' was the answer. What was not communicated that this one letter, will cost me another 360. 1 tax return and twice the price. As a single mom I had to resign from spending Xmas with my family and pay Peter Upton's surprise bill. Is it a good accountant? They are ok. Though you have to agree the price limit in advance.
